The heart of your home, done properly, supply and fit, or fit-only, with expert plumbing, electrics and finishing.
A new kitchen is one of the most rewarding improvements you can make to a home, and one of the most demanding to get right. In Chelmsford and across Essex, Abbotts Build Hub has spent more than 25 years fitting kitchens that work as hard as the families who use them. Because we handle the building, plumbing, electrics and finishing in-house, one accountable team looks after your project from the first measurement to the final door adjustment.
Whether you are replacing tired units in a Victorian terrace or opening up the back of a family home in Springfield or Great Baddow, the goal is the same. We want a kitchen that suits how you cook, gather and store things, built to last and finished to a standard you will still be pleased with in ten years. Every project starts with a free, no-obligation quote and an honest conversation about your space and budget.
A kitchen installation is rarely just cabinets and worktops. It usually means stripping out the old room, adjusting or renewing the plumbing and electrics, making good the walls, floor and ceiling, then fitting units, appliances, splashbacks and lighting in the right order. Done properly, the trades follow one another in a planned sequence, so first-fix pipework and cabling are in place before plastering, and worktops are templated only once the carcasses are level and secure. As a fully insured firm with workmanship guaranteed, we treat that sequencing as the part that protects your investment.
The first decision is layout. A galley, L-shape, U-shape or island each suit different rooms, and the classic working triangle between sink, hob and fridge still shapes how comfortable the kitchen feels in daily use. Islands and peninsulas add prep space and seating, but they need enough clearance around them and often carry services such as sockets, water or an extractor, which affects both cost and floor build-up.
You will also choose between supply-and-fit, where we source the units and worktops for you, and fit-only, where we install a kitchen you have bought elsewhere. Both work well, and the right choice depends on how much you want to manage. Worktops deserve real thought too. Laminate is affordable and comes in many finishes, quartz offers a consistent, low-maintenance and hard-wearing surface, and granite gives a natural stone that no two pieces share. Quartz and granite are templated and fitted by stone specialists once the base units are in place.
Then there are the services behind the finish. First-fix electrics and plumbing set the positions of sockets, switches, lighting circuits, the sink waste and any water for appliances, and this work is carried out to the relevant building regulations, with certification arranged through appropriately registered specialists. Integrated appliances need accurate cut-outs and ventilation, and extraction should be sized for your hob and, where possible, ducted to outside. Tiling, flooring, task and ambient lighting then pull the room together, and small choices here make a large difference to how the finished kitchen feels.
Most kitchen problems come from trades that do not talk to each other. With one team covering building, plumbing, electrics and finishing, that gap disappears. If your project also touches the wider home, such as a general renovation of the surrounding rooms or removing a wall to create a kitchen-diner, we coordinate it under one roof and, where a project needs it, arrange building control approval and a structural engineer. Many clients ask us to refit a bathroom at the same time to make the most of having a trusted team on site. You get an established local firm that turns up, tidies up and stands behind its work.
We begin with a visit to measure up and understand how you use the space, followed by a clear written quote with no obligation. Once you are happy, we agree a start date and a realistic order of works, keep disruption to a minimum, and walk you through the finished kitchen so every drawer, appliance and light is exactly as it should be.
We fit kitchens throughout Chelmsford and the wider Essex area, including Great Baddow, Springfield, Writtle, Danbury, Broomfield, Maldon, Braintree, Witham and Billericay. If you are nearby and not sure whether we reach you, please just ask. We also work right across the wider county, from Colchester and Southend to Basildon, Harlow, Brentwood and Braintree, so take a look at all the areas we cover.

View project: Kitchen Renovations“We finally have the island we always wanted and it has completely changed how the family uses the room. Everything was measured properly, the units line up beautifully, and they cleared up after themselves every single day.”
“Straightforward, honest and on time. Dishwasher and washing machine both plumbed in and working perfectly.”
“The larder cupboard they built is a brilliant use of an awkward corner and I am in it every day. One door needed adjusting a week or two after they finished, but a quick call and someone came back out to see to it. No real complaints.”
“New sockets where I actually need them and proper lighting under the cupboards. Tidy work.”
“Lovely finish, and the little touches like the under cabinet lighting really lift the room.”
“Our house is Victorian and the old pipework behind the units was a proper mess. They sorted all of it without any fuss and left everything working better than before.”
“Gorgeous quartz worktops and a fit that has not a single gap anywhere. Really pleased.”
“They supplied and fitted the whole kitchen for us and took care of everything from the units right down to the final coat of paint. Made a big job feel completely manageable.”
“Our worktop template appointment was booked in properly and the finished tops fitted like a glove, no messing about on the day. Clean, insured, and they stand behind the work, which is exactly what you want.”
Most kitchens take between one and three weeks on site, depending on the size of the room and how much plumbing, electrical and building work is involved. A straightforward replacement in the same layout is quicker, while moving services, knocking through or replastering adds time. We give you a realistic schedule with your quote so you can plan around it.
You will usually be without the kitchen for part of the project, but not always the whole time. We plan the order of works to restore water and power as early as we sensibly can, and many clients set up a temporary kettle and microwave area during the fit. We will tell you honestly which days are likely to be the most disruptive.
Yes. We offer fit-only installation for kitchens bought from a showroom or online, as well as supply-and-fit if you would rather we sourced everything. If you send us the plans and unit list, we can check the specification and flag anything that may not suit your room before you place the order.
It depends on your budget and how the kitchen will be used. Laminate is the most affordable and comes in a huge range of finishes, quartz is a hard-wearing, low-maintenance engineered surface that resists staining, and granite is natural stone with unique markings. We are happy to talk through the pros and cons for your worktops and explain how each option is templated and fitted.
A like-for-like kitchen replacement rarely needs planning permission, but the electrical and any gas work must meet the relevant building regulations, and we arrange certification through appropriately registered specialists. If your kitchen involves removing a wall, an extension or new drainage, further approvals may apply. Where a project needs it, we coordinate building control and a structural engineer for you.
