What HETAS approval means in practice
Solid fuel installations are notifiable building work. Fit a stove without the right sign-off and you can face problems with your local authority, your home insurance and, later on, the solicitors handling a sale. A HETAS registered installer removes that risk. We carry out the installation to current building regulations, self-certify it through the scheme, and the notification goes to your local authority automatically. You receive a certificate of compliance to keep with your home's paperwork.
The registration also reflects how the work is done, not just how it is recorded. Flue sizing, hearth dimensions, ventilation, clearances to combustible materials and the draw of the finished chimney all have to be right for a stove to burn cleanly and safely. Those are exactly the details the scheme assesses, and exactly the details we sweat on every job.

HETAS questions, answered
HETAS is the UK body that approves solid fuel heating appliances, fuels and installers. It runs the government recognised competent person scheme for wood and solid fuel heating in England and Wales, which means registered installers have been trained and assessed to fit stoves, flues and hearths safely and to current building regulations.
Solid fuel installations are notifiable building work. A registered installer can self-certify the work, so it is automatically notified to your local authority and you receive a certificate of compliance. The certificate is often requested by insurers and solicitors when you sell, and the registration gives you confidence the work meets Document J of the building regulations.
